Getting started

The welcome tour ends with your first fold. Afterwards, the Next Up card always suggests what to do next, and the ⓘ button on each screen explains what it’s for. To replay the tour, open Journey and choose How to play.

Easy and Hard folding

In Easy, drag each flap to where the dashed outline shows; neat folds earn stamps. In Hard, pick up the corner the arrow starts from and place it yourself: a magnifier shows the corner up close, each fold is scored for precision, and a fold that lands too far off springs open to try again. Tap Show me to watch a fold first. Your friend turns out the same either way. To switch, use the Easy and Hard switch on the Fold tab or the fold screen, or open Journey → Folding.

Folding with iPhone Duo

On iPhone Duo, steps marked with the phone symbol can be made by closing the phone. After a phone fold, open the phone again for the next one. You can always drag the glowing corner instead. Bending the open phone tilts your Haven, and friends slide toward the fold; lay the phone flat and they find their feet. Folding with the phone is available only on iPhone Duo. On other iPhones and on iPad, every fold is made with touch.

Backups and new devices

When you’re signed in to iCloud, Foldlings backs up your Haven to your iCloud account automatically. Journey → Your save shows whether the backup is current. On a new device, sign in to the same Apple Account with iCloud on, then open Foldlings; it looks for your Haven before starting a new one. If two devices have different progress, Foldlings asks which Haven to keep.

Going away

Friends’ needs keep changing while you’re away. The first day away is gentle; after that, friends who aren’t looked after may get hungry, unwell, or sulky until you care for them again. Nothing is permanent. Before a long break, open a friend’s card and choose Hibernate. Hibernating friends rest safely, and you can wake them from the Hibernation Den in the World Atlas.

Reminders

Foldlings sends at most one notification a day, and none between 9 pm and 8 am. Open Journey → Reminders to choose which kinds you get and the time of day, or to see what’s planned.

Trading with Paper Post

Both players open Paper Post on devices near each other, with Bluetooth on. Allow Foldlings to find devices on your local network when iOS asks; if you declined, turn on Local Network for Foldlings in the Settings app. Each player chooses what to offer, then both tap Ready to swap. Any change to an offer clears both players’ readiness, so nothing is exchanged until both agree. Papers you designed in Paper Studio can be offered too; the other player receives a copy and you keep yours. You can also send up to three friends to the other player’s Haven for a playdate.

Lanterns and odds

Lanterns are opened with paper cranes earned in the game, or with free Paper Lanterns from daily visits. Each lantern holds several prizes and a pouch of cranes, and never gives something you already own. Tap See all odds on the Lanterns screen to view the chance of every prize before opening one. If nine Moon Lanterns in a row bring no Legendary or better prize, the tenth is guaranteed one.

Purchases and restoring

Open the Paper Shop to see each pack’s contents and price in your local currency. Packs are permanent. Foldlings doesn’t sell paper cranes, lanterns, or anything random. To restore packs on another device or after reinstalling, open the Paper Shop and choose Restore purchases while signed in to the Apple Account that bought them. Pending purchases unlock after Apple approves them. For refunds, use Apple’s Report a Problem.

Privacy

Foldlings requires no account and sends anonymous play statistics only. To turn them off, open Journey, choose Privacy, and turn off Share anonymous play stats. Read the Foldlings privacy policy for details.
